I’m at the doctor’s.

There’s a young man reading a book to his daughter. He finishes quietly, not ashamed, but intending not to bother the sickly around him.

She asks him to read another. He says, “Okay.”

I’m facing the other way. I can’t see either, but I know there’s love in the room. And I can’t stop smiling: maybe the world isn’t so bad.
